Ontario Supports over $2.7 Million Investment to Drive Growth in Southwest Middlesex

Provincial Funding Supports Infrastructure Upgrades to Unlock Business Development in Southwest Middlesex

GLENCOE — The Ontario government is supporting an investment of $2,750,000 by the Municipality of Southwest Middlesex to strengthen the local economy through improved regional competitiveness.
The investment was announced today by Steve Pinsonneault, Member of Provincial Parliament for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex.
“By supporting strategic investments from regional municipalities, our government is protecting Ontario’s workers and creating the conditions for a strong, stable, and resilient economy that can weather any storm,” said MPP Pinsonneault “The Corporation of the Municipality of Southwest Middlesex ’s investment will support growth and innovation across the region.”
With this investment, the Corporation of Southwest Middlesex will service 44.6 acres of municipally owned land with essential infrastructure, including water, sanitary and storm sewers, and roadways to support light industrial and other business development opportunities.
“Economic development–enabling infrastructure is the foundation of growth,” said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. “By equipping municipal land for new business development, this investment positions Southwest Middlesex to attract employers, strengthen the regional economy, and create good jobs for the people who call this community home.”
In support of this investment, the government is providing The Corporation of the Municipality of Southwest Middlesex with $1,375,000.00 in funding through the Regional Development Program’s Southwestern Ontario Development Fund.
“This investment marks a turning point for Southwest Middlesex. With support from the province, we’re opening the door to new industrial development, attracting business investment, and creating the conditions for job growth right here in Glencoe. We’re grateful to the Ontario government for recognizing the potential in our community and helping us take this bold step forward,” said Allan Mayhew, Mayor of Southwest Middlesex.
Ontario is investing over $200 million through its Regional Development Program to help municipalities, businesses, and not-for-profit organizations drive economic development, support innovation, and create good, sustainable jobs in Ontario, while supporting distinct regional priorities. To date, Ontario has supported more than 165 projects through the program, leveraging more than $2.1 billion in new investments and helping to create over 4,000 jobs.

- The government launched the Regional Development Program (RDP) for eastern and southwestern regions of Ontario in November 2019. Through this program, businesses and municipalities can get financial support and guided access to a range of complementary services and supports.
- In 2022, the Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Competitiveness (AMIC) stream of the RDP was launched to support advanced manufacturers across the province. Ontario is now providing additional funds to enhance the AMIC stream that will help more firms with the financial support and tools needed to improve competitiveness, while strengthening essential supply chains.
- The government continues to provide tax support to Ontario manufacturers by continuing to offer the Ontario Made Manufacturing Investment Tax Credit to eligible businesses.
- Additionally, Ontario has launched a new $50 million Ontario Together Trade Fund to assist local businesses in taking advantage of new interprovincial trade opportunities.
