Province investing in emergency equipment and training to protect communities

LUCAN BIDDULPH —The government is taking action to protect Ontario by investing $14,109 in the Township of Lucan Biddulph to help prepare for and respond to emergencies. Funding is being delivered through the Community Emergency Preparedness Grant (CEPG), which strengthens emergency preparedness by helping communities improve their local resilience.
“Strong communication is at the heart of any effective emergency response. This investment will help Lucan Biddulph enhance while ensuring residents have access to well-organized support in case of an emergency. By improving how information is shared and services are delivered, we’re helping build a safer and more prepared community,” said Steve Pinsonneault, MPP for Lambton–Kent–Middlesex.
The Township of Lucan Biddulph will use this funding to obtain six portable radios and emergency reception centre signage to improve communication among the Emergency Control Group, municipal staff, and partner emergency agencies, and to support the rapid setup of an organized emergency shelter with clearly marked essential service areas. The project will address emergencies that require coordinated communication and the activation of an emergency reception centre, ensuring clear information flow, efficient shelter operations, and improved safety for residents and responders.

“Our government is strengthening the readiness of local communities and organizations to better prepare for any type of emergency,” said Jill Dunlop, Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Response. “Whether it’s modernizing an emergency operations centre or investing in a generator to power a warming centre during a winter storm, these investments help to protect communities across Ontario.”

- The CEPG supports small- to medium-sized municipalities, local services boards, First Nations communities, Tribal Councils and Indigenous service organizations.
- Recipients were selected through a rigorous and competitive review process.
- Since the program launched in 2023, the province has invested $15 million to provide 342 recipients with grants.
