Province investing in emergency equipment and training to protect communities

LAMBTON SHORES —The government is taking action to protect Ontario by investing $50,000 in the Municipality of Lambton Shores to help prepare for and respond to emergencies. Funding is being delivered through the Community Emergency Preparedness Grant (CEPG), which strengthens emergency preparedness by helping communities improve their local resilience.
“This investment is about making sure our local emergency teams have the right tools. By equipping Lambton Shores Fire & Emergency Services with modern digital technology, we’re improving coordination, speeding up response times, and helping keep residents safe during unpredictable emergencies. It’s another example of how we’re supporting communities with practical solutions that enhance readiness and protect people when it matters most,” said Steve Pinsonneault, MPP for Lambton–Kent–Middlesex.
The Municipality of Lambton Shores will use this funding to equip Lambton Shores Fire & Emergency Services with the FirstDue digital platform to centralize incident plans, hydrant mapping, asset inventories, incident reporting, and training records for five stations. This will improve preparedness, communication, interoperability, and offline access for crews responding in rural areas. The project will address emergencies such as flooding, severe storms, winter weather, power outages, and the increasing risk of wildland fires, all of which challenge emergency response and require strong situational awareness and coordinated operations.
“Our government is strengthening the readiness of local communities and organizations to better prepare for any type of emergency,” said Jill Dunlop, Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Response. “Whether it’s modernizing an emergency operations centre or investing in a generator to power a warming centre during a winter storm, these investments help to protect communities across Ontario.”
“This provincial investment will strengthen emergency preparedness across all five of our fire stations and give firefighters faster access to critical information when every second counts,” said Doug Cook, Mayor of Lambton Shores. “Beyond improving access to critical information, this technology will play an especially important role in supporting local response in areas where connectivity can be limited.”
