Chatham-Kent — The Ontario government is helping deliver transitional housing units in Chatham-Kent through a $440,000 investment from the Building Faster Fund (BFF) that will result in more homes for the community.
“The work being done by Chatham-Kent to build more homes shows that by working together, we can deliver results in building a bigger, better, stronger Ontario,” said Paul Calandra, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. “I applaud Chatham-Kent for doing what it takes to make sure everyone in their community has an affordable place to call home. Our government will continue to give municipalities the tools they need to address the unprecedented population growth we’ve seen.”
In February 2024, Ontario provided $440,000 from the Building Faster Fund to the Municipality of Chatham-Kent for exceeding its 2023 housing target, breaking ground on a total of 522 new housing units last year. Chatham-Kent is using the province’s investment to support:
- The capital costs of a Transitional Cabin project, creating up to 50 small independent units with shared amenities to address homelessness. This project provides temporary housing and support services to help individuals transition to long-term housing solutions.
“Our government’s investment in Chatham-Kent’s housing infrastructure demonstrates our commitment to addressing the housing supply crisis while supporting vulnerable members of our community,” said Steve Pinsonneault, MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex. “This project is an important step toward ensuring more people in Chatham-Kent have access to safe and affordable homes, helping them transition to long-term housing.”
Announced in August 2023, the Building Faster Fund is a three-year, $1.2 billion program that is designed to encourage municipalities to address the housing supply crisis. The fund rewards municipalities that make significant progress against their housing targets by providing funding for housing- and community-enabling infrastructure.
