LUCAN BIDDULPH – Steve Pinsonneault, MPP for Lambton–Kent–Middlesex, joined the Township of Lucan Biddulph Mayor Cathy Burghardt-Jesson, members of council, municipal staff, and project partners to celebrate the start of construction on a significant wastewater infrastructure project that will support growth and strengthen essential services for decades to come.
The Province of Ontario is investing more than $18.5 million to support the expansion and modernization of the municipality’s wastewater treatment facilities. The funding is being delivered through the province’s Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund (HEWSF), a stream of the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program (MHIP). The project will help ensure local water infrastructure can accommodate future residential development while maintaining reliable service for existing residents and businesses.
“This groundbreaking is amazing news for Lucan-Biddulph and the future of this rapidly growing community. Our government’s investment of more than $18.5 million will help ensure critical infrastructure keeps pace with growth while unlocking new housing opportunities, attracting investment, and supporting the families that choose to call Lucan-Biddulph home. I’m proud to support an investment that strengthens our community and lays the foundation for continued growth and prosperity into the future.” said Steve Pinsonneault, MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex.
“Today’s groundbreaking marks a major milestone for Lucan Biddulph and reflects our commitment to investing in essential infrastructure,” said Mayor Cathy Burghardt-Jesson. “While this project will create additional capacity to support future housing and economic development, it is equally important because it provides critical upgrades to our existing wastewater treatment system. These improvements will enhance reliability, improve operational efficiency, support environmental stewardship and ensure we can continue delivering safe and dependable wastewater services to residents and businesses.”
The project will improve the municipality’s wastewater system through upgrades designed to increase capacity, improve operational efficiency, and enhance long-term reliability. By modernizing treatment processes, increasing system resiliency, supporting environmental compliance requirements, and ensuring sufficient capacity exists to accommodate future development, this project provides long-term benefits to residents.
Construction is now underway and is expected to continue through 2027.
“Through our government’s $4 billion Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, we are protecting Ontario by investing in local infrastructure that drives economic growth, enables more homes and strengthens communities,” said Todd McCarthy, Ontario’s Acting Minister of Infrastructure. “For families and residents in Lucan Biddulph, this project will help unlock the construction of nearly 1,000 new homes, helping support long-term growth and new jobs across the region.”
