CHATHAM-KENT — Ontario is celebrating a new milestone in the construction of the new Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent with the foundation now fully poured and the structural steel in place. This $59 investment by the Ontario Government is on track to provide a new, larger, state-of-the-art children’s treatment centre that will expand capacity and help connect thousands of children and youth with special needs and their families to rehabilitation services, closer to home.
“Each week brings new progress, and with every milestone, we’re one step closer to opening the doors of the new Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent,” said Steve Pinsonneault, MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex. “This new facility will offer more space to serve a growing number of families—delivering essential children’s developmental services in a state-of-the-art, fully accessible environment. It represents an incredible investment in the future of our children and our region. Families across Chatham-Kent and surrounding areas will benefit from enhanced care, expanded programming, and a welcoming space designed to support every child’s unique journey. I’m proud to see this vision becoming a reality.”
The new Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent broke ground in July 2024 and is expected to be completed in Summer 2026. The new 58,000‐square‐foot, fully accessible building will replace the existing site, house a team of professionals, and offer a range of specialized rehabilitation and respite supports conveniently under one roof, including:
- speech-language pathology
- occupational therapy
- physiotherapy
- services for children and youth with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder
- audiology
- respite services
- Ontario Autism Program services; and
- coordinated service planning for children and youth with multiple and/or complex special needs.
“Today’s milestone moves the Chatham-Kent Children’s Treatment Centre project a step closer to the finish line where more children and youth with special needs can access services in their communities,” said Michael Parsa, Minister of Children, Community and Social Services. “We are deeply grateful for the work of the Chatham-Kent Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation’s Board of Directors and all the community advocates, organizations and local MPPs who are helping make this new facility a reality.”
Construction of this new facility builds on nearly $600 million in recent investments to build modernized facilities at children’s treatment centres across Ontario, including planning for the new Lansdowne Children’s Centre in Brantford, construction of Grandview Kids in Ajax, construction of the CHEO Integrated Treatment Centre in Ottawa and the successful relocation of Health Sciences North Children’s Treatment Centre in Sudbury.
