Dresden, ON – On Tuesday, local MPP Steve Pinsonneault met with Dresden Rotarians to celebrate a $19,300 Capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The grant will help the Club construct an accessible washroom for guests with disabilities. This additional washroom will also allow for an increase in the permissible occupancy of the building.
“I applaud the Ontario Trillium Foundation for awarding this grant to the Dresden Rotary Club, which will significantly enhance accessibility at the Wheelhouse for all community members,” said Steve Pinsonneault, MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex. “This $19,300 Capital grant not only expands the facility’s capacity but also demonstrates a strong commitment to inclusivity and community service. Through grants like these, our government is fostering local initiatives that contribute to a stronger and more connected Ontario for everyone.”
The current number of restrooms limits the maximum number of people in the building to 100. This project aims to expand the restrooms by dividing a large custodian’s room to create an all-gender, handicapped-accessible restroom, and a smaller custodian’s room. These modifications will increase the maximum number of people allowed to 150, which is an increase of 50%. This is essential as the current restrictions hinder the community from using the facility.
Dresden Rotary Club President Paul Weese thanked the representatives from the Foundation and the Government of Ontario for the grant. “The Ontario Trillium Foundation greatly supports organizations such as Dresden Rotary. In many cases, the projects they fund would not otherwise be possible. That is certainly the case for this one. We thank the OTF for its support and assure them, the people of Dresden, and the area that the project will extend the club’s goal of making the Wheelhouse a community hub.” Weese stated.
The Rotary Club of Dresden has served the community of Dresden and the surrounding area since 1986. The core of Rotary is our committed members who embrace the principles of service, friendship, diversity, integrity, and leadership.
“Whether it’s helping people learn new things, connect with their community, or simply have fun, organizations like the Rotary Club of Dresden deliver experiences that make a difference,” said Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming. “That’s why grant support through the Ontario Trillium Foundation is so important. This funding will help ensure they remain at the heart of the community for decades to come.”
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Ontario government with a mission to build healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, OTF invested more than $110M into 1,044 community projects and multi-sector partnerships. Projects aim to enhance economic well-being, foster more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide spaces for people to come together and connect, and create a more sustainable environment.
